Dolly Brooks was born 18 Nov, 1795 in Stow, Middlesex, Massachusetts, to Luke Brooks and Susan Smith. She married Manning Whitney in 1819 and together they located to Franconia, NH, on road 22. Dolly and Manning reared a family of six children; Emeline, Daniel, Henry B., Lydia, Jane, and Sally H. Dolly died 5 Aug, 1881 at the age of 85, and is buried in Willow Cemetery, Franconia, NH. Dolly’s father Luke was a surveyor, and is credited with being the first settler to see the Old Man of the Mountain.
